AI to Have Greater Impact Than Blockchain, Subscribers Say

Artificial intelligence will have a far larger impact on the tech industry than blockchain, 78% of respondents to The Information’s latest subscriber survey said. Respondents generally were skeptical of blockchain’s transformative potential: Only 8% of respondents expected blockchain to have a greater impact on the tech industry. Fourteen percent of respondents said it was too hard to choose between the two technologies.

Companies have invested enormous sums in both AI and blockchain. But as numerous survey respondents noted, AI at this stage is far more deeply entrenched in technology and consumers’ lives than blockchain, which has emerged only recently as a popular concept. Several respondents commented that while there are many proven applications of artificial intelligence, it was too soon to gauge how useful blockchain will be in the real world.
