An Ex-Instagram Engineer Launches a Social Cooking App

Short cooking videos have exploded on TikTok and other social media networks, but the food bloggers who make them still largely depend on their personal websites to bring in income from ads. For people looking for online recipes created by these bloggers, it can be hard to keep track of them or save favorites in one place. 

Spillt, an app launched globally on Apple and Google app stores this week, is trying to address this need. Home cooks can use the app to find and organize recipes, create grocery lists and leave reviews. There is also a social element: Users can see what recipes their friends are saving in the app’s news feed. The app aims to provide an alternative to messy spreadsheets or bookmark tabs with saved recipes, while boosting traffic for food bloggers and recipe creators.
