Android Creator Andy Rubin Launches Robotics Startup in Tokyo
Andy Rubin, creator of Android and a former Google executive, has launched a new startup focused on humanoid robots, said a person with direct knowledge of the venture. His venture is the latest addition to the red-hot and frothy humanoid space, crowded with companies ranging from Tesla to startups such as Figure AI.
Rubin’s startup, Genki Robotics, is based in Tokyo, where he is currently living, according to the person. The company is still in stealth mode and doesn’t have a website or public job postings, but it has an office where the team is working on prototypes. Rubin is looking to recruit more talent to expand the team, the person said. Genki is a Japanese word that means energetic, lively or healthy.
