Anthropic’s CEO Says He Doesn’t Do ‘Code Reds’
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Wednesday threw shade at archrival OpenAI, saying at The New York Times Dealbook Summit that “we don’t have to do any code reds.” It was a reference to our report Monday that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman initiated a “code red,” shifting staff to improve ChatGPT and image generation in response to Google’s success with its latest AI.
Amodei maintains that Anthropic will be in a better position because it’s been laser focused on one thing: selling AI to businesses. As a result, Anthropic does not need to worry about losing favor with consumers each time a competitor releases a new model, he suggested, a contrast with Google and OpenAI.
“We're kind of going in a different direction—or on a different dimension—and so we kind of have to worry less about this back-and-forth. We have a little bit of a privileged position where we can just keep growing and just keep developing our models,” Amodei said.
Indeed, Anthropic is feeling confident enough in the future of selling its technology to businesses that it raised its revenue growth projections over the summer.
