Anthropic’s Compute Crunch Strikes Again

Anthropic said Monday afternoon it had topped $30 billion in annualized revenue, implying growth surged 58% since the end of February. It also suggests the maker of the Claude chatbot may have surpassed OpenAI, which was generating $25 billion in annualized revenue in February.

Despite its success, Anthropic isn’t winning any fans in the developer community as it tries to clamp down on people using Claude to power tools like the open-source AI agent OpenClaw. But the bigger worry may be why it is clamping down in the first place.

The company on Friday said customers would have to purchase extra capacity—instead of using their existing Claude chatbot subscriptions—if they wanted to use Claude for third-party tools like OpenClaw. Developers weren’t happy.
