Barra Bids Facebook Farewell, DigiLens Debuts Design v1

Facebook is losing a big name in its AR/VR efforts with Hugo Barra’s departure from Facebook announced yesterday. The social media giant has plenty of talent in that space now, though, most notably Mark Zuckerberg himself. So what’s the impact of Barra’s exit?

If there is any disruption it would be to Facebook’s Ray-Ban non-AR smart glasses project with Luxottica, which Barra has been working on since 2019 as VP of Partnerships, Facebook Reality Labs. Even that, though, may be far enough along to cope with Barra’s exit. Facebook maintains that the glasses are expected to launch this year.
