Long before Donald Trump entered the White House for a second time, it was becoming clear we were entering a radically different world. Rising nationalism and increased cross-border friction were replacing the open, interconnected system that reigned supreme for three decades. Even in 2015, prior to President Trump’s first term, President Xi Jinping was laying out a “Made in China” strategy to boost the country’s high-tech manufacturing.
By now, most companies have already started taking measures to protect themselves from the vulnerabilities of global supply chains. But piecemeal fixes won’t cut it. Advances in artificial intelligence, particularly from China, demand that U.S. policymakers and companies embrace a strategy to make them stronger and build for the future. They can follow a blueprint for resilience.
