Breaking Up Google Won’t Fix the Ad Market. Here’s What To Do Instead

Bill Ready, CEO of Pinterest and former President of Commerce, Payments and Next Billion Users at Google.

Earlier this month, a federal court issued its remedies for the Department of Justice’s case against Google Search. However, there’s another equally consequential remedies decision before the court that could reshape the integrity of the open web and the future of digital publishing.

In this case, the court has already ruled that Google exercised anticompetitive monopoly power in display advertising, substantially harming publishers. But the question before them now is bigger than one company’s fate. It’s about how we restore trust, competition, and fair value for everyone who depends on a free Internet funded by digital advertising, from the smallest publisher to platforms like Pinterest.
