Diversity and cultural richness, but also stark inequality and harsh commutes. World-class access to nature, but a real risk of natural disasters. And right now, California’s state taxes are in the spotlight, thanks to a proposed wealth tax.

A third of The Information’s California-based readers say they would leave the state, according to our latest subscriber survey. For those Californians open to a move, relatively low-tax states Texas, Florida and Nevada are the top three most popular alternatives. Those that called out specific cities in those states most frequently mentioned Austin, followed by Miami and Dallas.
