Does Facebook Make the World Better? Half of Polled Employees Say Yes
After months of blistering headlines and late-night TV jokes about Facebook’s struggles to control hate speech and other abuses on its apps, employees don’t seem to feel much worse about the company’s impact on the world.
A semi-annual “Pulse Survey” of Facebook employees, which the company is preparing to share widely with staff, showed 50% of those employees said they believe Facebook, now known as Meta Platforms, “makes the world better,” according to a copy of the results viewed by The Information and a person familiar with the matter. The other respondents felt Facebook had a neutral or unfavorable impact. More than 57,000 of some 63,000 Meta employees responded to the latest survey, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The 50% figure in the recent survey was one percentage point lower than the proportion of survey employees who said Facebook was good for the world a year ago, and down three percentage points compared to three years ago.
