Google is about to join the “bot” craze gripping Silicon Valley.

Reports that Google was working on a way for people to use its smartphone messenger to chat with businesses—or Google itself—have circulated for months. But we’ve recently learned more details about the company’s messaging effort and that it is planning to discuss some of the products at its annual developer conference, which starts Wednesday.
