How Amazon Built a Key AI Team
The Amazon division that’s spearheading many of its most ambitious artificial intelligence efforts is made up almost entirely of executives and staff who were shifted from Amazon’s Alexa team, plus several dozen recent hires from the startup Adept, The Information’s updated Amazon Org Chart shows.
The artificial general intelligence org, led by ex-Alexa chief scientist and senior vice president Rohit Prasad, who now reports to CEO Andy Jassy, is at the center of Amazon’s scramble to develop a competitive large-language model and to reinvigorate the Alexa voice assistant. Amazon formed the group last summer when Prasad brought around 8,000 of the 10,000 people who were under him at Alexa, according to a former senior Alexa staffer.
