‘I Can Take Video Calls Even While Cooking’: The Smart Kitchen Appliances That Tech People Love
Tech leaders share the smart refrigerators, optimizing ovens and kitchen accessories that are making their lives easier.
“We have three kids, two cats and a dog,” said Charles Edge, chief technology officer at Bootstrappers.mn, a venture capital firm in Minneapolis. “It’s a busy household in the morning, with kids and animals screaming for food and needing to be driven to school or daycare.” A wide array of smart kitchen tools is making Edge’s life—and his mornings—easier. “We can have better food and the things we need without as much work at those high-traffic crunch times,” he said.
From smart ovens to Amazon Echo–enabled refrigerators, kitchen appliances are no longer the utilitarian staples of yore. Kevin Yu lauds his touch-screen ventilation system. “I have meetings in all time zones and the GE Hub is a dream to have,” said Yu, founder and CEO of SideChef, maker of a voice-activated cooking app. “I use [the Hub] every morning to check my calendar, and even program it to make my morning coffee. I can take video calls even while cooking.”
We spoke to Edge, Yu and a handful of other tech leaders about how they’re using kitchen smart tech to multitask and optimize their cooking experiences.
