The next four weeks will deliver a one-two-three punch of big intellectual property in streaming: First, the Game of Thrones prequel “House of the Dragon” premieres on HBO Max (and, of course, HBO) this Sunday, Aug. 21. Next, Amazon’s hotly anticipated “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” pops up on Amazon Prime Video Friday, Sept. 2. Finally, Star Wars prequel series “Andor” graces Disney+ on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
For streaming consumers—not to mention each franchise’s respective superfans—the coming month will offer an embarrassment of riches. Whether that will deliver riches to each franchise’s respective streaming service is another, dicier question.
