Microsoft Hires Former Meta Marketing Exec to Work on Copilot AI
Microsoft has hired a veteran marketing executive, with experience at both Meta Platforms and Time Warner, to serve as a creative director of the company’s Copilot consumer artificial intelligence chatbot, according to two people briefed on the situation. The hiring is a sign of how AI firms are starting to focus their attention on marketing their AI chatbots in an increasingly crowded market.
Mark D’Arcy, who was a marketing executive at Meta for a decade through 2021, will report to Mustafa Suleyman, Microsoft’s AI CEO, who oversees the company’s consumer AI business. Suleyman’s unit primarily focuses on Copilot, a ChatGPT-like chatbot that is embedded in Microsoft’s Windows operating system, Bing search engine and Edge browser, as well as a stand-alone app geared toward consumers. D’Arcy’s role will include oversight of Copilot’s product and design in addition to branding, one of the people said.
