MrBeast’s $100 million deal with Amazon Prime Video for an upcoming reality competition series will test whether creator-led shows on streaming services, especially with content geared toward older viewers, can draw the same massive audiences as they do online.
Kids shows that originated on YouTube, such as Cocomelon, are the clearest examples of social media content that’s found success on more traditional entertainment platforms. Cocomelon episodes on Netflix, for example, were watched about 200 million times from last July to December, beating out other kids’ programs, according to Netflix data.
