Pro Weekly: Upstart Sports Leagues Gain Momentum

A few weeks ago, we published one of my favorite additions to The Information Pro, our Sports Team Owners Database. My colleague Sara Germano logged more than 50 sports franchises across nearly a dozen sports leagues that count tech entrepreneurs, executives and investors among their owners.

I was struck by how many of these people have invested in newer leagues such as Major League Cricket, Major League Pickleball and Major League Table Tennis. The investors aren’t exactly Silicon Valley nobodies. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is an owner of the Seattle Orcas cricket club, and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian is an owner of the Los Angeles Golf Club of the Tmrw Golf League.
