Seven Tech Rumors You Didn’t Read About this Year

We at The Information broke a lot of news this year. We also chased a lot of news that wasn't true—or in some cases, may have been true but we just couldn't confirm.

In the spirit of peeling back the curtain on how news and gossip spreads in tech reporting, I thought we'd publish some of the rumors we knocked down this year with details about how they spread. Our hope is that it gives you a greater sense of the speculation that flies around Silicon Valley on a regular basis and how it is often fueled by particular agendas. (And if you happen to have heard any of these too, perhaps you’ll be interested in what we sussed out.) And to the people involved and other media outlets, please let me be clear: The vast majority of these are NOT TRUE.
