Why Silicon Valley Is Obsessed With Biological Age Tests, Despite Dubious Science

Wellness-obsessed techies are spending thousands of dollars to track their biological age in hopes of living longer. But even some researchers who have worked on models for estimating biological age question whether the tests are worth the money.

Venture capitalist Meltem Demirors isn’t above the occasional splurge on bags, jewelry and other material things. But she much prefers to use her disposable income for an expanding array of exotic wellness experiments, including injecting peptides and hiring a personal longevity coach.

“The only dollars I spend that really have a noticeable impact on my well-being are on my health,” said Demirors, a former crypto executive who is now a general partner at venture firm Crucible Capital.

Last September, she took three biological age tests, which analyze blood, saliva or stool samples to estimate whether the condition of a person’s body is better or worse than their actual years on Earth would imply.
