Silicon Valley’s Frontman Problem
Media interest in Silicon Valley is intensifying, often around a few vocal individuals.
Marc Andreessen’s tweets about all matter of topics are being picked up by media outlets right and left. Every word out of Elon Musk, crazy or otherwise, spawns some (highly clickable) headlines. Peter Thiel’s remarks about Twitter management and pot hit a few cable news cycles. Reporters and editors have decided tech—and the people behind it—sell, so they are piling on the coverage.
But do these frontmen getting the most coverage represent the views of the broader Silicon Valley community? And if not, how is the public image of the Valley being skewed?
