Team Behind Hit Game Zenith Raises $35 Million for VR “Super-App”
What’s the next step for a VR developer once they’ve got a successful massively multiplayer online game on their hands? Expanding in the metaverse-like direction of Fortnite or Roblox might seem like the natural move, but the makers of Zenith: The Last City at Ramen VR—who say their MMO has gained “several hundreds of thousands” of players since its January launch—want to keep their heads in the game.
The strong launch helped Ramen raise $35 million in Series B funding at an undisclosed valuation, the company announced Thursday. Existing investors Dune Ventures and Anthos Capital co-led the round, with Makers Fund (which just closed a $500 million fund) investing pro rata. Ramen is also welcoming Andrew Chen and James Gwertzman as individual strategic investors. Both Chen and Gwertzman are also general partners at Andreessen Horowitz.
