The Information’s Public Company Index

Subscribers got a little more positive about Twitter in the latest subscriber survey. Attitudes towards the company have been the most negative of any company in recent months, with the sentiment score getting as low as minus 72% in October. But in January, the sentiment score rose 16 percentage points to minus 42%, its best score since last April. The unpredictability in the political arena since President Trump’s inauguration has made Twitter more of a must-read for people.

The sentiment score is the percentage of subscribers who are more optimistic minus the percentage who are less optimistic. The survey was conducted between Jan. 24 and Jan. 30. 

In contrast, optimism towards Microsoft dipped sharply. Sentiment towards the company had been strongly positive since last June. But its score fell 27 percentage points to 38%, despite its reporting a better than expected second fiscal quarter result late last week.
