The Race To Create Video for Virtual Reality
The ever-approaching day when virtual reality is no longer vaporware has kicked off a race among media and tech firms to start churning out content for the world’s newest consumer devices.
Yes, we’re still years away from any sort of wide-scale VR adoption. (Of the major tech firms, only Samsung’s Gear VR headset has been released to the public, and that device must be paired with a Galaxy Note 4 smartphone to work.) And yes, tech companies and studios don’t have any a clue about what sort of media, games and otherwise, people will actually like to watch.
But tech companies like Facebook and studios like 20th Century Fox are starting to fund experimental projects nonetheless.
