TikTok CEO Vows to Take Ban Fight to Supreme Court
TikTok’s hopes of continuing to operate in the U.S. now rest on intervention of the Supreme Court. The Chinese owned app on Friday lost the first round in its legal efforts to block a law requiring it to sever its ties with its parent, ByteDance, or be banned next month.
TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew on Friday told the video app’s staff that it will try to get the courts to halt the law from going into effect. “Our next step is to seek an injunction of the ban, pending review by the US Supreme Court,” Chew wrote in a memo to staff, which was seen by The Information and hasn't previously been reported.
ByteDance has been betting an injunction will give it enough time to hash out a deal with the Trump administration, according to two ByteDance investors briefed by company staff.
