To Fix Social Media, Give Us a Reason to Behave
We know how to regulate ourselves at the dinner table. Why should the internet be any different?
Elon Musk buying Twitter has reignited the free speech debate. Should social networks restrict what we say? Or should they allow everything and descend into anarchy?
This is a false dichotomy. There’s a third option: Give us incentives to regulate ourselves.
Let’s face it—we’re part of the problem. Fixing social media is not just about what we see, it’s also about what we post. We all behave differently in different environments. Can a social network foster an environment that brings out our better selves?
