Creator Economy

Twitter’s Subscription Challenge; Live Shopping App NTWRK Raises $50 Million

Twitter is trying hard to go after creators with new features including tipping, newsletters and Super Follows, which ask fans to pay a monthly subscription of between $3 and $10 for bonus tweets. But data from mobile app- tracking firm Sensor Tower shows a slow start to at least one of these features: Super Follows has only generated about $6,000 in the first two weeks of being live on iOS in the U.S., according to a TechCrunch article.

That tepid beginning hasn’t held back Twitter from adding to its creator offerings. At a press briefing on Thursday, Twitter executives said the micro-blogging site was expanding tipping globally (and adding an option to tip with Bitcoin). They also teased a creator fund that gives hosts using its live audio feature Spaces financial, technical and marketing support. Twitter declined to say how much of an investment it’s making in the program or how many creators will be included. The company’s rivals have already rolled out such funds; see how other creator funds compare here.
