What to Make of Netflix’s New VR Game

Netflix quietly released a VR game on Oculus Quest—so quietly, in fact, that it may well have been sitting under people’s noses for a while. We know the streaming behemoth is keen on getting into videogames, but the closer you look at this VR surprise, the less it looks like something that’s part of Netflix’s new gaming strategy.

Anyone with a Quest headset can go find the game, Eden Unearthed, on the App Lab for free. It’s a short VR experience based on “Eden,” a Netflix original anime series the streamer released in May. The game’s official listing page actually says it was uploaded to Oculus about a month before the show’s release, suggesting that this VR tie-in may have actually been intended for the promotional push ahead of the “Eden” premiere. Because of the way App Lab works, though, it’s not clear whether or not anyone could have found Eden Unearthed at that time.
