Why We Urgently Need a Female Elon Musk

In some ways, it was a fabulous week for women. An overwhelmingly female team of journalists at the New York Times were jointly awarded a Pulitzer Prize for exposing serial harassers like Harvey Weinstein. A team at the Washington Post, again dominated by women, won another Pulitzer for their investigation into Roy Moore.

But it was also a very crummy week for women. In the same paper that exposed Mr. Weinstein, New York Times commenters took Marissa Mayer to the woodshed over an interview she gave about a startup incubator she recently created. Most of the commenters (largely men) called her “a loser,” “one-hit wonder” and “abject failure,” questioning whether she was worthy of being written about by the Times. She also got subsequent flack on social media (from many women) for saying that the #metoo movement could deter women from coming to Silicon Valley.
