Instead of just acquiring TikTok's U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand operations, Microsoft is said to be mulling a buyout of the entire business.
The U.S. wants to block Chinese companies from U.S. app stores. It also wants to put restrictions on where data belonging to U.S. citizens can be stored.
TikTok executives told employees that the app will come out stronger through an acquisition, but cautioned that the details of such an outcome are uncertain.
