A Tale of Two Startups; Xooglers Land $10 Million To Soften Your Accent
There’s something ironic about publishing a story on early-stage AI startups struggling to raise money and, over the next two days, writing about a one-year-old legal AI startup landing a $700 million post-investment valuation and a Xoogler-founded AI startup nearing a $2 billion price, as Natasha and I did yesterday.
But these stories don’t contradict each other. Instead, a “tale-of-two-cities” narrative is playing out as generative AI hype has reached its peak.
Some startups are having a hard time fundraising because VCs are wary of backing moonshot ideas or companies with better-funded rivals (more here in this newsletter). But those startups that are growing revenue are still popular with VCs, who like companies that are able to take flashy demos and turn them into products that get traction with customers.
