Gemini 3 Arrives; Open-Source Coding Agent Raises $19 Million

Before we get to today’s news about Gemini, we should mention that this morning, Microsoft and Nvidia announced that they’re investing in Anthropic, who will be spending at least $30 billion over an unspecified amount of time to rent servers from Microsoft’s Azure cloud equipped with Nvidia chips. Now, all three cloud providers are invested in the OpenAI rival, in yet another signal of how Microsoft has diversified away from the ChatGPT maker.

Now, let's look at the highly anticipated release of Gemini 3, Google’s new flagship large language model, which launched today.

As you would expect, Google says that Gemini 3 is a step up in performance on various outside evaluations such as LMArena, the dramatically named Humanity’s Last Exam, and GPQA Diamond, which tests an AI’s work in graduate-level biology, chemistry and physics tasks. 

Of course, the real test will be once people get their hands on the model. We’ll report back about how it compares to existing leading models like GPT-5 and Claude Opus 4, and how regular users and developers feel about it—especially those that didn’t have special early access.
