The Year 2022 for Creators in Two Charts

When we look back at 2022—and ahead to next year—two trends stick out. First, it’s become even more clear that social media executives find some of their best ideas by copying rival apps, from giants like TikTok to upstarts such as BeReal. Plus, a table of the biggest creator funds shows how these pools of cash, designed to entice creators to make content for various apps, are set to dry up. Below, we’ve updated two of our popular charts to reflect these changes. 

The first chart shows just how much social media platforms’ features are converging, a table we first published in August 2021 and then updated a year ago. This year, we added in two new features: The dual-camera mode made popular by three-year-old startup BeReal and NFT features, such as the ability to display digital collectibles or create them.
