Pro Weekly: A Gloomy Outlook for Big Tech Names
Between falling share prices, a major antitrust ruling and an onslaught of quarterly results, readers had a lot to digest before answering our August survey last week. It seems they didn’t like what they saw: Sentiment about the technology sector was the most pessimistic in our surveys since March 2023, when the government closed Silicon Valley Bank.
Readers also grew more pessimistic regarding eight of the 14 prominent tech firms we regularly ask about. For four of those companies—Apple, Microsoft, Tesla and Airbnb—sentiment is the most pessimistic it has been since February 2023, when we started polling readers. Almost 950 people completed our survey between Aug. 8 and Aug. 13.
