We’ve been selecting promising startups for The Information 50 for five years now, and we’ve compiled those 250 picks into The Information 50 Database. Many have grown to impressive heights. To be considered for the list, companies must be valued at less than $1 billion; since we selected them, 39 of our picks have been valued at more than that number.

A few valuations have soared. Automation software company Zapier (picked in 2020) notched a $5 billion valuation in 2021 after having raised less than $1.5 million in venture funding. Artificial intelligence company Perplexity (picked in 2023) is now valued at $9 billion, and AI collaboration software company Hugging Face is now valued at $4.5 billion.
