Pro Weekly: Megadeals Dominate AI Funding

Anthropic’s sibling co-founders, Dario and Daniela Amodei, had much to celebrate over Thanksgiving dinner this year. One week ago, Amazon said it would be stuffing their company with yet another $4 billion investment. It’s the second time Amazon has done so—it announced its first Anthropic investment of that size into the company back in September 2023.

These ginormous investments in AI startups totaling $1 billion or more are now nearly quarterly occurrences. In the fourth quarter, we’ve been doubly lucky with two—OpenAI raised $6.6 billion in a funding round last month.
