Pro Weekly: Megadeals Lead Fourth-Quarter AI Funding Surge

As public companies report their fourth-quarter financial results, we’ve been running the numbers on fourth-quarter venture funding for startups in our Generative AI Database. Two headlines emerged: It was the biggest quarter yet, and venture capitalists are bullish on artificial intelligence agents.

Investors poured nearly $20.9 billion into AI startups in the quarter, more than fourfold the total for the same period a year earlier. Granted, $16.6 billion of that funding came from just three deals: OpenAI’s $6.6 billion funding round in October, Anthropic’s $4 billion infusion in November and xAI’s $6 billion funding round in December.
