Pro Weekly: The Hiring Boom at AI Companies

Earlier this week, I published our latest Org Chart, documenting the people running artificial intelligence powerhouse Anthropic, one of OpenAI’s biggest rivals. In the reporting, I learned that Anthropic’s headcount has more than tripled this year to 300, from 85 at the start of the year. 

It’s a staggering growth rate. But given the massive sums AI companies have raised these past few years (Anthropic has raised more than $7 billion in total), it’s not surprising these startups are hiring fast. OpenAI, which has raised $11 billion, has more than doubled its headcount this year to 770 employees, from 375 in February. Large language model developer Cohere, which has raised $435 million, has grown to 275, up from 150 in January. Video-creation platform Synthesia has raised $156 million and has grown to 300 staff, up from 139 at the start of the year.
