Mojo Vision’s New AR Contact Lens Prototype; Nreal Raises $60 Million from Alibaba

Mojo Vision, the Saratoga, CA-based startup working on AR contact lenses, has reached a new development milestone. The company said today it has completed an “advanced prototype” of its contact lenses featuring all the components needed to drive their AR functions, from batteries and an accelerometer to the super-small display that sits at the center of the lens.

Nobody has worn these lenses just yet—that’s the next major testing step Mojo aims to take (and its CEO Drew Perkins wants to be the first to try them on). The progress Mojo has made toward a functioning AR contact lens is impressive, but it also served to illustrate just how long the road ahead for the startup is.
