Musk’s Chip Maneuvers Won’t Sway Tesla Vote

Say what you will about Elon Musk, at least he is consistent. CNBC broke news today about Musk redirecting a shipment of Nvidia’s highly valued AI chips from Tesla to Musk’s privately held X and xAI, crystallizing concerns that some Tesla shareholders have about Musk’s divided loyalties. Once again, we have evidence that in his management of numerous companies, Musk moves staff (and other resources) between them as though they’re all one entity. But how big a deal is this really?

According to the CNBC story, a later shipment of Nvidia chips will be redirected from X to Tesla. That fits with Musk’s explanation that “Tesla had no place to send the Nvidia chips to turn them on, so they would have just sat in a warehouse.” In other words, X could use the chips now and Tesla couldn’t. That will change shortly: Musk noted that Tesla is about to finish an extension of its Texas factory that would house the chips (a facility we reported on last October). As long as X pays Tesla for the use of the chips, Tesla shareholders have nothing to complain about.
