Chinese metals giant Tsingshan Holding Group has roiled the world of nickel, selling enormous volumes of the metal at cheap prices that have prompted several rivals to shut mines in Australia. Now it is seeking a share of the U.S. battery market, selling iron-based batteries for energy storage and electric vehicles through its Irvine, Calif., subsidiary, Rept Battero.
