Is Apple killing off its electric car a good or bad sign?
Posted byJessica E. Lessin
The Information
Fascinating to see that after our reporting about all the huge problems with Apple's Car project, it is killing it off, as reported by Bloomberg today. Curious what you all think: is this a sign that Apple and Cook are being disciplined or is it a sign that the company can't innovate any more and may run out of big new growth areas?

OpenAI starts the AI app wars
Posted byJessica E. Lessin
The Information
When The Information broke the news that OpenAI was launching an AI app store last summer, it made a lot of sense. App Stores are the tried and true way to build a real platform. Today, OpenAI revealed their tech during a developer keynote and it seems incredibly easy to use and quite interesting. Really makes the case that they are leading in the consumer productization o...

The Information
I'm on my way to China to cover U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo's trip and spend some time with her. It's been five years since my last trip to Beijing.  I can't wait to see what the country and tech sector are like at this moment and to understand how the U.S. government draws the line on promoting business between the two nations while also tightenin...

The tech finance culture clash...
Posted byJessica E. Lessin
The Information

Now, there's a lot of hype around tech and finance (fintech and so on) and I see exactly the same fault lines emerging. The team's piece on the crumbling Apple/Goldman Sachs alliance is the best I've seen on the theme. Hope you guys find it interesting and interested i...

What's happening to M&A?
Posted byJessica E. Lessin
The Information
Just got another note from Goldman Sachs celebrating a 35% increase in M&A. And certainly things are on the rise. But I've also heard from a lot of sources that deals are getting stuck, in part due to preference stacks, like ratchets, that have founders discouraged to strike a deal. Curious what everyone thinks.
